Grief Support Group (Week 9)

  • Fortis: Whole Mind and Body Care Online (map)

Grief Support Group

Event Description:
This student therapist-led grief support group provides a structured, compassionate space for adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group blends guided discussion, psychoeducation, and peer support to help participants process grief, reduce isolation, and develop healthy ways of coping with loss.

Groups meet weekly and are offered at multiple times to accommodate different schedules:

  • Tuesdays at 12:00 PM

  • Saturdays at 1:00 PM

If none of the listed meeting times work for your schedule, you are encouraged to reach out and let us know what days and times would be more accessible for you. We make every effort to consider additional group offerings based on community interest and availability.

Groups are intentionally kept small to foster safety, connection, and meaningful participation. Participation begins with a brief screening to ensure the group is an appropriate fit for each individual.

Week 9:

Session Focus:

Grief in the Context of Life Changes

Session Purpose:

The purpose of Week 9 is to explore how grief can resurface or intensify around significant dates and life milestones, such as anniversaries, birthdays, or holidays.

This session helps participants acknowledge and prepare for these challenging times with compassion and flexibility.

We will discuss healthy coping strategies for managing difficult days, including creating meaningful rituals, setting boundaries, and communicating needs to others.

The session also reinforces the understanding that grief is a deeply personal process without a fixed timeline.

Session Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Recognize how grief may re-emerge or intensify during significant dates and milestones.

  • Learn to acknowledge difficult days openly rather than avoid them.

  • Develop practical strategies for coping with challenging times, including planning, creating rituals, and honoring their loved one.

  • Understand the importance of protecting their energy by setting boundaries and saying no when needed.

  • Practice communicating their needs to friends, family, and support systems during tough periods.

  • Embrace the idea that grief is an ongoing process without a predetermined end point.
