10-Week Grief Support Group
Event Description:
This 10-week grief support group is designed to provide a safe, supportive space for individuals navigating the complex emotions of loss.
Each weekly session builds upon the last, guiding participants through the natural, non-linear process of grief using Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning as a framework. We begin with introductions, co-creating group expectations, and developing an understanding of grief as a unique and personal journey.
In the following weeks, we move through the tasks of mourning by exploring what it means to accept the reality of the loss, experience the pain of grief, adjust to life without the deceased, and eventually reinvest in life while maintaining a meaningful connection to the person who has died.
As the group progresses, we also explore the impact of grief on personal identity, the role of memory and continuing bonds, and how to navigate social expectations and support systems.
In our final weeks together, we reflect on grief in the context of broader life changes and honor the process of healing by integrating the loss into the ongoing story of our lives.
This group emphasizes emotional safety, mutual support, and the understanding that healing does not mean forgetting—it means learning how to carry your grief with you in a meaningful and life-giving way.

This group is designed for adults who are navigating the loss of a loved one and are seeking a safe, compassionate space to explore their grief. Whether your loss was recent or years ago, this group is for anyone who wants support in making sense of their grief, connecting with others who understand, and learning how to move through the grieving process at their own pace.

Week 3:
Session Focus:
Experience the Pain of Grief
Session Purpose:
The purpose of Week 3 is to support participants in exploring and expressing the wide range of emotions that often accompany grief.
This session emphasizes the importance of allowing oneself to feel grief fully—without judgment or suppression—in order to prevent emotional bottling that can lead to complicated grief.
Participants will learn that emotions like sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, and even relief are all normal parts of the grieving process.
In addition to creating space for emotional expression, this session introduces simple, effective coping strategies to help manage overwhelming feelings and support nervous system regulation.
Session Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will:
Identify and normalize a wide range of emotions commonly experienced during grief.
Understand the importance of allowing space for emotional expression as part of healthy grieving.
Explore the risks of suppressing or avoiding grief-related feelings.
Practice practical coping tools for managing emotional overwhelm, such as breathing techniques, grounding exercises, and progressive muscle relaxation.
Begin to build self-awareness around their own emotional responses and learn to approach them with compassion and curiosity.
