Grief Support Group
Event Description:
This student therapist-led grief support group provides a structured, compassionate space for adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The group blends guided discussion, psychoeducation, and peer support to help participants process grief, reduce isolation, and develop healthy ways of coping with loss.
Groups meet weekly and are offered at multiple times to accommodate different schedules:
Tuesdays at 12:00 PM
Saturdays at 1:00 PM
If none of the listed meeting times work for your schedule, you are encouraged to reach out and let us know what days and times would be more accessible for you. We make every effort to consider additional group offerings based on community interest and availability.
Groups are intentionally kept small to foster safety, connection, and meaningful participation. Participation begins with a brief screening to ensure the group is an appropriate fit for each individual.

Week 1:
Session Focus:
Introductions and Understanding Grief
Session Purpose:
The purpose of Week 1 is to establish a safe, supportive, and collaborative group environment where participants can begin their grief journey together. This session lays the foundation for emotional safety by focusing on introductions, shared group expectations, and clear guidelines for confidentiality and support.
It also introduces participants to the concept of grief as a natural, individual process and provides an overview of the framework we’ll use throughout the group—Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning. This first meeting is designed to foster trust, encourage open communication, and help participants feel grounded in the group process.
Session Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will:
Begin building connections with fellow group members through introductions.
Collaboratively create group expectations that promote emotional safety, respect, and mutual support.
Understand the importance of confidentiality and discuss group guidelines for maintaining it.
Develop a shared understanding of grief as a unique and natural process.
Be introduced to Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning as a guiding framework for the group.
Feel invited to express questions or concerns about the group structure or goals.
