10-Week Grief Support Group
Event Description:
This 10-week grief support group is designed to provide a safe, supportive space for individuals navigating the complex emotions of loss.
Each weekly session builds upon the last, guiding participants through the natural, non-linear process of grief using Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning as a framework. We begin with introductions, co-creating group expectations, and developing an understanding of grief as a unique and personal journey.
In the following weeks, we move through the tasks of mourning by exploring what it means to accept the reality of the loss, experience the pain of grief, adjust to life without the deceased, and eventually reinvest in life while maintaining a meaningful connection to the person who has died.
As the group progresses, we also explore the impact of grief on personal identity, the role of memory and continuing bonds, and how to navigate social expectations and support systems.
In our final weeks together, we reflect on grief in the context of broader life changes and honor the process of healing by integrating the loss into the ongoing story of our lives.
This group emphasizes emotional safety, mutual support, and the understanding that healing does not mean forgetting—it means learning how to carry your grief with you in a meaningful and life-giving way.
Target Audience:
This group is designed for adults who are navigating the loss of a loved one and are seeking a safe, compassionate space to explore their grief. Week 5:
Session Focus:
Reinvesting in Life
Session Purpose:
The purpose of Week 5 is to support participants in exploring what it means to reinvest in life after loss, the fourth task in Worden’s framework.
This session focuses on the idea that moving forward and embracing life does not mean forgetting the person who has died.
Instead, it involves finding ways to carry the memory of the loved one while also making space for new experiences, relationships, and sources of meaning. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on how they can allow joy, connection, and purpose back into their lives—without guilt—and explore how this reinvestment can be a vital part of healing.
Session Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will:
Understand the concept of reinvesting in life as a healthy and necessary part of the grief process.
Reflect on any internal barriers (such as guilt) that may be preventing them from engaging in new roles, relationships, or activities.
Explore ways to create meaning from the loss, such as through storytelling, traditions, or acts of service.
Identify new hobbies, passions, or social connections that support healing and growth.
Discuss how to balance remembrance of the deceased with continued personal development and the pursuit of a meaningful life.
