Parenting Through Big Emotions: Strategies to Help Your Child Regulate Feelings

Event Description:
If you are currently struggling to help your child regulate their big emotions, you are not alone!

This group session, led by two student therapists, will help you navigate helping your child with emotional regulation.

We will discuss steps involved in emotional regulation, concrete strategies to help with it, and how to talk to your child about big emotions.

We’ll also discuss strategies to become more emotionally aware yourself so that you can transfer your calm state to your child.

If you want some practical guidance on how to help your child manage big feelings, this is the group for you.

Target Audience:

This group is intended for parents (single, married, cohabitating) with children from toddler age to teenagers.

Saturday, March 28th, 2026: 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Location:

Dad and toddler play in the field because dad knows how to use emotional regulation from seeing an online therapist in Ottawa, KS with Fortis counseling center.

This group will be led by Lucy Katter and Marshall Campbell, students at MidAmerica Nazarene University.

 

Focus, Purpose and Objectives for the Group:

Session Focus:

We will explain emotional regulation and co-regulation and strategies to regulate big emotions. 

Session Purpose:

For parents to learn the basics of co-regulation so they can help their children with emotional regulation.

Session Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • To give parents concrete strategies to help themselves and their child(ren) manage big emotions.
