A single mom who is expecting a newborn baby soon attends parenting classes with Fortis therapy group through online therapy in Kansas.

Event Description:
Becoming a parent is an exciting but scary transition.

Led by two student therapists, this group will help parents-to-be learn how to manage anxiety around the transition and prepare for it.

The group leaders will help you learn how to anticipate and plan for struggles that may arise as a new parent, as well as identify values that will motivate you as you manage a major life shift.

If you need support embracing this major life change and want to be well-prepared for it, consider joining this group.

Target Audience:

A loving black couple expecting a newborn baby attend a parenting group with Fortis therapy group in Overland Park, KS who also offer family therapy in Liberty, MO.

Parents who are expecting their first child and want help managing the transition.

Dates & Times:

Week 1: Thursday, March 19th, 2026 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm
Week 2: Thursday, March 26th, 2026 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm
Week 3: Thursday, April 2nd, 2026 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm
Week 4: Thursday, April 9th, 2026 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm
Week 5: Thursday, April 16th, 2026 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm
Week 6: Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm

Location:

This group will be held via our HIPAA compliant telehealth platform.

Pricing:

$30 per adult for the entire 6 week series, due upon registration

Facilitator Information:

This group will be led by Jonathon Fancher, student therapist at Wake Forest University and Lucy Katter, student at MidAmerica Nazarene University.

 

Week 2:

Session Focus:

Examining current identity, including personal values, as opposed to what their identity will look like as a parent.

Session Purpose:

Help participants identify what will change, process together any anxiety that comes up, and learn how to manage anxiety through values-based action.

Session Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Participants will identify values that will guide decisions once participants become parents.
